With a career in HR spanning over 25 years, Anuranjita Kumar is known as a HR transformation leader focused on building the strategic capabilities of employees, global talent management and in cultivating a shared and vibrant corporate culture. Through her career, she has always found herself at the helm of transformations, and grooming leaders for the future management. She has gained credibility through her proven skillsets in ensuring corporate turnarounds during phases of downturn in the overall banking ecosystem through innovation.
As the Managing Director and Head of HR for International Hubs at RBS, Anuranjita (Anu, as she is known in the industry), has been instrumental in setting up a transformational turnaround through a vibrant Employee Value Proposition as well as through strategic decision making as the bank evolved from its legacy issues. Some of the gender-oriented policies implemented within the organisation have been industry moving ones and have been hailed as being bold in dealing with situations head-on and in driving home a one bank one voice ideology - unifying thoughts and actions towards organisational growth. In a year’s time the franchise has seen all time high Engagement Index (86%) and Leadership Index (81%) and Inclusion index 12 points beyond the Global Financial Services norm. International hubs franchise has also received many industry accolades for significant achievements on the People agenda. PCI top 50 by Jombay and diversity leader by SHRM. As a visible LGBT+ ally and sponsor, Anu’s thought leadership on LGBT+ inclusion has resulted in RBS India rolling out workplace policies to support the community. Few examples include and not limited to Medical Insurance Benefit to cover LGBT+ employee Partners, traditional definitions of the term “family” reviewed in policies to add LGBT+ partners. All this much before Section-377 was de-criminalised!
Prior to RBS, Anuranjita Kumar was earlier the Chief Human Resource Officer and Head, Citi South Asia. Here she has worked across multiple geographies including Europe, Middle East North America (NAM), Asia Pacific and Africa and have witnessed times of both prosperity and austerity when she headed HR for Corporate and Investment Banking in Europe as well as later; the staffing and Developmental role out of New York or as Senior HR advisor for Private Bank in Singapore. In almost every role, her focus and recognition has come from her strategic capabilities in ensuring that the ‘humanness’ in HR drove decision making; managing global talent management and in cultivating a shared and vibrant corporate culture.
Anuranjita began her career with Procter & Gamble in 1994 and joined Citi in 1995.
Anu is the Chairperson of the American India Foundation Board, India, Advisory board member of SHRM India, Director on the RBSIPL board as well as on the RHEG board of the new upcoming Plaksha University. She has been recognised a leader by various forums, Fortune India, South Asia council for Women -UK to name a few.
Over the years, she has been actively engaged as an executive coach for senior executives across the industry as well as the ‘start-up ecosystem’. Anu is extremely committed to spearheading diversity and inclusions initiatives. She is also the author of the bestselling book " Can I have it all?" and is currently on her journey to publish a second more bolder book on ‘Racism’ through her personal lens as a ‘global employee’ giving life to her experiences spanning multiple countries and continents.
Se is a management graduate from XLRI, specializing in Human Resources. She attended Welhams Girls School and is a gold medallist and topper in industrial psychology from Delhi University. Anuranjita is also a certified diver. She is keenly involved in volunteering with underprivileged children and enjoys spending time with her family. An avid reader and an equally passionate writer, she ensures she constantly connects with students to deep-dive into, in her words ‘the newness of thoughts and ideas’.
